Finite Element Analysis for the Influence of Bone Density on the Mechanical Properties of Femoral Neck
In order to understand the effects of bone density on the mechanical properties of femoral neck and improve the effects of treatment for femoral neck fractures, this paper presents a novel method of simulating the bone density changes among individuals. In this method we adjusted the experiential equations between the bone density and gray value and then obtained the mathematical model of the change of bone density. The relation curves of bone density and nodal displacement of femoral neck were acquired by analyzing the three dimensional finite element model of proximal femur in different density. Comparing the curves with the theory of the bone loss rate changing with age, the modeling method was proved to be effective. According to the result of finite element analysis, the bone density is an important factor of devising treatment plans of femoral neck fracture and predicting the treatment effects. Quantitative analysis of individuals must be taken into account in treatment.
