Optimization of Horizontal Well Length by Streamline Simulation
Streamline simulation shows particular advantages over finite-difference simulation. By the advantages of streamline simulation such as its ability to display paths of fluid flow and acceleration factor in simulation, the description of flooding process gets more visibility. The communication between wells and flooding area has been represented appropriately. In anisotropic low permeability reservoirs horizontal wells has been applied to stimulate. But the direction and the length of horizontal section make great impacts on the sweep efficiency of flooding unit. Through streamline simulation this paper presents that the horizontal well should perpendicular to the main permeability, and the reasonable length of horizontal section is given. This method has been applied to the Z201 reservoir in Daqing Oilfield. The production history of this reservoir is about 2 years. The reservoir is maintained above bubble point so the simulation meets the slight compressibility assumption. New horizontal are spaced follow this rule.
