Lubrication Study on a Connecting Rod Big End Bearing of Two-stroke Marine Diesel Engine
Based on elastohydrodynamic lubrication model of dynamically loaded bearing, and rough contact theory, AVL Excite Power Unit software was employed to investigate the EHD lubrication analysis for bid end connecting rod bearing of a low-speed two-stroke marine diesel engine. Relevant parameters of lubrication characteristics were analyzed, and the results show that the maximum bearing load appears at 10℃A and the force will go to other directions at the 300℃A. The trend of maximum film pressure is consistent with the load, and the minimum value of the oil film thickness is 6.75μm. The bearing orbital path is mainly in the upper shell region. The connecting rod is under compressive stress in most of the time, but in the end of scavenging stroke is under tensile stress. Oil film pressure is mainly on upper shell, and the wear of the upper shell will be significantly larger than that of the lower shell. The big end bearing is under dynamic lubrication condition during whole working cycle.
