Structure and Thermal Stability of Nanoclay/flax Nanocomposite
Nanocomposite of nanoclay and natural flax fibers were generated by the electrospinning process. The structure of the nanocomposite was evaluated by the X-ray diffraction (XRD),Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The thermal stability of the nanocomposites was examined by thermogravimetry (TG). The X-ray diffraction and FTIR spectra suggested the inclusion of nanoclay in the nanocomposite fibers. The SEM images showed that submicron scale nanoclay/flax nanocomposite fibers can be obtained and the addition of nanoclay reduced the diameter of the nanofibers and made the fibers more uniform. TG analyses revealed that the thermal property of the flax fibers was notably improved by the introduction of nanoclays.
