Preparation and Characterization of Nanofibrous Bioactive Glass Scaffolds
Sol-gel derived glass nanofibers with high bioactivity were prepared by electrospinning technique and combining poly (vinyl butyral) (PVB) as chain entanglements. The hierarchical bioactive glass scaffolds with interconnected macropores and mesopores on the surface of the fibers were obtained. This study concentrated on the effect of PVB concentration on the diameter and morphology of the composite fibers and the process of in vitro biomineralization. The early stage of in vitro biomineralization of the glass nanofibers in the simulated body fluid (SBF) was studied. The in vitro biomineralization behavior of bioactive glass nanofibers was different with the conventional ones, and the structure of nanofibers contributed to accelerate the formation of hydroxyapatite.
