Study on the Preparation and Characterization of SWNTs/Lyocell Composite Fibers

In this paper,single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) were used as the additives to prepare SWNTs/Lyocell composite fibers. To realize the homogeneous dispersion of SWNTs,the purification and functionalization of SWNTs were carried out,then SWNTs/Lyocell composite fibers were spun by the dryjet wet spinning process and the properties of the composite fibers were investigated. The results showed that SWNTs treated with the purification and functionalization could be dispersed homogeneously in NMMO aqueous solution. The addition of appropriate amount of SWNTs could improve the mechanical properties of composite fibers. Compared with the Lyocell fiber,the tensile strength and initial modulus of the SWNTs/Lyocell composite fibers containing lwt% SWNTs were increased by 24.2% and 55.8%,respectively. Moreover,the thermal stability of composite fibers was improved by the addition of SWNTs.
