Advantages of Basalt Fiber Reinforced Concrete Structures

A severe weakness of concrete is interior and surface cracks. Preventing the occurrence and propagation of cracks in concrete structures has been the focus of many research projects. Fiber reinforcement is a commonly used method to control crack propagation and enhance the tensile strength of concrete structures. Continuous basalt fiber exhibits high performance in terms of compatibility with cement,tensile strength,stiffness,resistant to erosion,durable to physical wear and aging. The key properties of basalt fiber and other reinforce fibers of concrete,were evaluated to state the advantages of basalt fiber as a new concrete reinforce material. Basalt fiber is better than any other concrete reinforcing fibers in terms of its chemical stability,environment friendly nature,stiffness,strength and compatibility with cement. With the forbid of fiberglass and price soaring of petrol chemical and steel fibers,the application of basalt fiber will increase significantly and benefit civil construction industries.
