Comparison of Fiber Configurations between Low Torque,Compact and Ring Spun Yarns
Yarn structure plays a key role in determining yarn physical properties and characteristics of resultant fabrics. The yarn structure changes with the yarn production technology, process parameters and fiber parameters. Ring spinning system is one of the most important spinning technologies in the textile industry and the properties and structure of ring spun yarn have been considered as bench mark for decades. This paper is aimed to investigate the structures of spun yarns produced by two types of spinning system using fiber 3D trajectories technology, namely low torque yarn spinning and compact spinning system, and make a comparison between them and the one produced by ring spinning system. In the low torque yarn spinning system,a false twisting device was incorporated into a ring frame for producing a low torque and soft handle singles yarns. In this paper, the internal structure of the above three yarns was analyzed in terms of threedimensional configuration of fibers,2D FFT analysis on fiber paths and other migration parameters based on tracer fiber technique. Experimental results reveal that low torque yarn has irregular structure and unique migration behavior comparing with compact and ring spun yarns. Meanwhile, results demonstrated the negative orientation angle of fibers exists in low torque yarns.
