Hemp Processing with MAE and Alkali-H2O2 One-bath Treatment
Degumming of the hemp plays very important role in the fiber processing. Hemp is degummed and bleached in an alkali-H2O2 one bath with microwave-assisted extraction (MAE). MAE is a new separation technique that combines microwave and traditional solvent extraction. MAE has many advantages, such as shorter time, higher extraction rate and lower cost etc. In this paper, barium peroxide (BaO2) as an oxidant, bleaching agent and catalyst is introduced and the mechanism of alkali-H2O2 one bath with MAE of degumming and bleaching of hemp is analyzed. Microwave pretreatment time,MAE time, the NaOH and BaO2 concentration are discussed in the experiments. The results show that the alkali-H2O2 one bath with MAE has uniform and effective removal of various kinds of components such as hemicellulose, pectin, lignin and so on. It has significant effect on fiber handle and fiber whiteness features. The key technological parameters are also obtained. The alkali-H2O2 one bath with MAE is a prospective method for hemp degumming.
