Preparation and Application of a Novel Fluoroalkylpolysiloxane Fabric Finish with Waterproofing and Washing Resistant Properties

A novel fluoroalkylpolysiloxane fabric finish(FASPFMS),bearing pendant long chain perfluoroalkyl,stearyl acrylate,and epoxy,was synthesized by hydrosilylation of polytrifluoropropylhydromethylsiloxane (PFHMS),perfluorooctylethene (PFOE),stearyl acrylate (SA) and allylglyeidyl ether (AGE). The chemical structure of FAS-PFMS was characterized by infrared spectrum (IR) and proton nuclear magnetic resonance (H-NMR). The film morphology of FAS-PFMS on cotton fiber surfaces was observed by field emitting scanning electron microscope (FESEM). Results show that fiber treated by FAS-PFMS shows a correspondingly smooth macro-morphology under FESEM observation. Grade of washing resistance of the treated samples could reach to 90 and CA of water utmost reach to 132° by a mass concentration of 0.5% FSAPFMS ethyl acetate solution. Softness of the treated cotton fabric is relatively increased and whiteness is comparable to the blank sample.
