Applications of UV Curing on Textiles
Conventional curing is the most common thermal process for textile finishing. During the finishing process,a fabric is usually padded finishers, dried, then, cured by heated to 130-200℃ for 1-15 min based on finishers applied, within curing resins or binders can react or crosslink on the fabric (hardening) to perform a special function with certain fastness. Although it is convenient to use a thermal curing in textile finishing processes, the curing is huge energy consumption. For energy saving,a low temperature and fast process for textile finishing should be considered. The low temperature curing processes can use ultraviolet light, electron beam,or laser to polymerize the binder material (monomers and oligomers) to fix finishers on textiles. Among them, the UV curing process needs the simplest equipment, and lowest cost. Examples of application of UV curing on textiles are discussed below.
