Dyeing of Polyurethane Fiber and Polyurethane/Nylon Blend with Temporarily Solubilised Disperse Dyes

In this study,a temporarily solubilised disperse dye was prepared and applied to polyurethane fibers and polyurethane/nylon blend to investigate a new dyeing process to improve color uniformity and color fastness. The effect of pH on the dyeing of this dye for both the polyurethane fiber and its blend was investigated at different dyeing temperature. The optimum dyeing condition was found respectively. In addition,the dyeing rate curve was measured at 75℃ and pH 10 for various components in polyurethane/nylon blend. It was observed that the transfer of dye from polyurethane component to nylon occurred because of difference in substantivity,and the dyeing equilibrium was nearly achieved by increasing the dyeing time to 100 min. Even distribution of dye between polyurethane and nylon as well as satisfactory color fastnesses were obtained with this dye.
