Nondestructive Observation of Textile Reinforced Composites by Low Energy X-ray Beam

NDT (Nondestructive Testing),NDE (Nondestructive Evaluation) technology with radiography is widely used in various fields,especially,medical science and industrial technology. Because NDT method does not destroy or change the characteristic of the sample,it is a useful technology that can inspect the sample inside,while both the form and the structural status of the specimen preserve. In taking advantage of the NDT method as an analysis tool for soft materials like textile reinforced composites the radiographic energy range plays the most important role. And we decided the low-energy X-ray of around 10-30keV suitable for our research purpose. To investigate the potentiality of the NDT method for soft materials,we have designed and constructed an experimental system,including development of the data processing software to subtract information on the structural insight of the specimens that were prepared. Based on the results achieved so far,we could confirm the feasibility of the X-ray application for the textile composites and obtain useful X-ray sample images successfully.
