Microstructures of Tibetan Yak Hair using SEM and AFM
Tibetan yak is special specie living in Tibet of China, and its hair has essential value. Researches about Tibetan yak hair morphology can help to understand the microstructure of hair and enhance the utilization of the yak products. In this study, the surface and cross-section of yak hair were observed by a scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and the hair scales were observed by an atomic force microscope (AFM). Results presented some morphology properties of hair, including its hair classification, composition and microstructure. Furthermore, the diameter of the hairs, the thickness of cuticle, the length and thickness of each scale, as well as the arrangement of the scales were measured.
