Mechanism Analysis of Stretching Slenderization by Shape and Structure for Coarse Yak Hair

This paper mainly investigated the stretching mechanism of coarse yak hair fiber through the change on shape and structure of fibers slenderized. To analysis the transformation mechanism, the samples were stretched 30, 60 and 90% longer than its original length by a device self-made, and the cortical cell and cortex of fibers after and before stretching was also obtained by means of ultrasonic separation technology. The results showed that the fiber diameter decreased gradually with the stretching ratio rising, and the slippage has been found on the surface of fiber slenderized. Meanwhile, it was also found that fiber cortical cells have been elongated at the same time, and which were piled more compacted in the cortex of coarse yak hair fiber after stretching. From density change of fibers stretched and unstretched, same results could be presented. After analysis to shape and structure change for coarse yak hair fiber, it could be inferred that the transformation of fibers was affected by two mechanisms, i.e. conformation change of “α helix→β sheet and “microstructure mass slippage, which happened during stretching process.
