Properties of STT Yarns and Conventional Yarns

Unidirectional twists are added to self-twist yarns to produce two-ply yarns, which are named twisted self-twist (STT) yarns. The properties of STT yarns have been evaluated, and the comparison of yarn properties between STT yarns and conventional yarns has been investigated. The results show that STT yarns have almost the same properties as traditional two-plied yarns with the same linear density at the aspect of yarn irregularity, yarn tenacity and yarn breaking extension. STT yarn has less imperfections and more hairiness than single yarn and two-plied yarn in ring spinning. Therefore STT yarn can be directly used for weaving.
