Low Temperature Dyeing of Wool in the Presence of Enzyme
Wool fibers were dyed with acid dyes in the presence and absence of enzyme. The effect of enzyme on the dyeing properties was investigated. The scales of wool were destroyed under the action of enzyme. The ultimate consequence was to facilitate diffusion of dye molecules into the fibers. The dye exhaustion and color strength (K/S value) increased significantly even at a low dyeing temperature. The wash-fastness of dyed samples was identical for the two different dyebaths, although there were slight differences in the staining grades.
