Effect of UV Radiation on the Wool Fabric Properties

In this paper, wool fabrics were subjected to ultraviolet radiation with different exposure duration, i.e. 1, 5, 10 and 20 hours. After the UV radiation, wool fabric properties such as air permeability, thermal conductivity, geometrical roughness and antistatic property were evaluated. Experimental results showed that the effect of UV radiation on these properties varied differently. Air permeability of the fabric samples increased slightly but there was a drop in the thermal conductivity. There was no significant change in the geometrical roughness of the wool fabrics after exposed to UV radiation. Meanwhile, a general increase in electrical resistance of the wool fabrics was noted after exposed to UV radiation.
