Effect of Chain Extenders on the Application of Aqueous Polyurethane Dispersions in Pigment Dyeing
Aqueous polyurethane dispersion (PUD) has been investigated in many fields. However, little work has been reported about application of environment-friendly aqueous polyurethane dispersions in pigment dyeing. Aqueous polyurethane dispersion based on polybutylene adipateglycol (PBAG), isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI), and dimethylol propionic acid (DMPA) were prepared by the prepolymer isocyanate process. Time-dependent function of free and residual NCO group was measured by dinbutylaminetoluene method during synthesis. Reaction product was measured by FT-IR spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Comparied the application of four types of chain extenders, N-(2Hydroxyethyl) ethylenediamine (AEEA) was found better performance on adhesive strength. Additionally, different fixation temperature was investigated in the appliation, and PUD with the chain extender of AEEA was found having an unfavourable influence if the fixtion temperature was higher than 150 oC.
