Study on Hydrophobic-Modified Poly(ethylene terephthalate) by Copolymerization and Blends
In this paper, hydrophobic-modified polyester, which was named MPET, was synthesized by copolymerization between hydroxy-fluorosilicone polymer (FGX) and bis(2-hydroxyethyl) terephthalate (BHET). Then, b-MPET with better hydrophobic property was obtained by adding polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) powder into MPET. An optimized synthesis route was determined through experiment. The characterizations were given to both MPET and b-MPET, including 1H-NMR, FT-IR, ESCA, mechanical properties, water absorption and contact angle. Blending a certain amount of PTFE powder can further enhance the hydrophobic properties of MPET.
