The Deodorant and Antimicrobial Activities of Wool Fabrics Treated with β-cyclodextrin and Chitosan

This paper reports the development of deodorant and antimicrobial finishes for wool. The better deodorization activity and antimicrobial activity were obtained when the wool fabrics were treated with 25g/L β-cyclodextrin, 60g/L polyurethane, chitosan (0.5%, w/w), dried at 80°C for 3 min and cured at 180°C for 1 min. Wool fabric treated by β-cyclodextrin combined with chitosan showed much better antimicrobial activity than wool treated by chitosan alone even after 20 wash cycles.
