Investigation on Pollution Generation and Discharge Coefficient in Fur Industry of China

In leather making industry, pollution generation coefficient (PGC) refers to the quantity of specific pollutant generated from manufacturing process under normal working condition on the basis of per unit of raw skin. PGC is a useful index to estimate the amount of the pollutant generated in the process. While pollution discharge coefficient (PDC) is a useful index to estimate the amount of the pollutant discharged in the effluent. This investigation was performed under the background of the first survey on industrial pollution sources in China. In fur industry, sheepskin, fox fur, coney, mink fur and raccoon fur making processes were involved in this investigation. Fourteen enterprises were selected to estimate the PGCs and PDCs of wastewater, CODCr, ammonia nitrogen (NH4 +-N) and petroleum. The result showed that PGCs and PDCs in different production processes varied greatly. It was also found that to adopt chemical combined biologic technology can reduce the corresponding PDCs of CODCr and petroleum greatly. These results have been applied in the first survey on industrial pollution sources of China in 2008.
