Synthesis and Properties of Novel Ultraviolet Protection Dyes for Wool Fabrics
In this paper, 13-aryl-5H-dibenzob,Ixanthene-5,7,12,14-(13H) tetraone derivatives (DYEs) were synthesized by Henna quinone (2-hydroxy-1,4-napthoquinone) with solvent-free catalyst system. It is shown that DYEs have excellent affinities but poor solubilities on wool. With iron salt as mordant, the color depth value (K/S) of wool fabrics dyed using DYEs was improved significantly, while chromatic parameter was changed a little. More importantly, for two of dyed wool fabrics, the ultraviolet protection factor (UPF) were 94 and 77, the transmission rate of UVA (315~400 nm) were 2.39% and 3.55%,as well as the transmission rate of UVB (290~315 nm) were 0.95% and 1.06%, respectively. It is concluded that DYEs enable dyed wool with outstanding UV protection properties, which is worth further study.
