Studies on the Treatment of NH3-N in Simulation Tannery Wastewater by Modified Peanut Shell

The application of non-food biomass such as walnut shell, corncob and peanut shell in the wastewater treatment was described and the feasibility of non-grain biomass in the tannery wastewater was analyzed in this paper. The removal efficiency of NH3-N in wastewater with several kinds of modified peanut shell was studied. The influence of the pH value, initial concentration, adsorption time, temperature and the amount of modified peanut shell on the absorption of NH3-N were discussed. The results show that, all these kinds of modified peanut shell have a good adsorption on NH3-N, the best is modified by phosphoric acid. The optimum condition is phosphoric acid modified peanut shell 1.0g, NH3-N solution 100mL, 100 mg·L-1, 35, pH 8, 40min, under which, the rate of removal can reach ℃ 76.32%. Finally, the residues of the phosphoric acid modified peanut shell were characterized by FTIR and SEM. It indicated that the process of NH3-N adsorption on peanut shell was physical adsorption.
