Study on the Effects of Hydroxypropyl Phosphine Derivatives on the Performance of Wool Dissolving

The dissolving behavior of wool fibers in the solutions of hydroxypropyl phosphine derivatives was investigated in the present study to attain the solutions of wool keratin with high molecular weight. The result indicated that the wool fiber could dissolve well at 90 ℃ in the aqueous solution of 30% (w/w) hydroxypropyl phosphine derivatives and 5% (w/w.) sodium bisulfite, and the solution of 10% (w/w) wool keratin were obtained, where the molecular weight of the resultant solution was above 8000 Da.
