Handle of Next-to-Skin Knitted Wool Fabrics

Seven (7) fabric attributes were identified as being sufficient to describe the essential fabric handle for next-to-skin knitted fabrics were: Smooth -Rough; Soft -Hard/Harsh; Clean -Hairy; Cool Warm; Heavy -Light; Tight -Loose; and, Dry -Greasy. A rating of Overall Handle was also considered important. The handle assessments by 12 experienced judges showed good agreement. The average correlation between a judges rating and the average rating of 12 judges ranged from a low of 0.54 for Warm – Cool feel to a high of 0.77 for fabric smoothness. However, the distribution of the judges scores for each handle attribute showed that the judges used slightly different scales in their assessments.
