Study on the Synthesis of Hyperbranched Polyester and the Rheological Properties of the Modified PET
With p-toluenesulfonic acid as catalyst, the title OH-terminated hyperbranched polyester (HBP) was synthesized based on phthalic acid and trimethylolpropane by one-pot process, which was characterized by use of nuclear magnetic resonance hydrogen spectrum (1HNMR) and nuclear magnetic resonance carbon spectrum (13CNMR). Due to a large number of polar groups, the hyperbranched polymers spread in the chromatographic column, which leads to chromatogram deformation. Hydroxyl groups were terminated by acetic acid, and its molecular weight (Mn=5700 g/mol) and molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn=1.64)were determined by use of gel permeation chromatography (GPC).Meanwhile, hyperbranched polyester as blending components were mixed into the polyethylene terephthalate (PET) to study its influence on the rheological properties of PET. The results show that the blends were NonNewtonian pseudoplastic fluid, and with increasing concentration of hyperbranched polyester, its apparent viscosity was dropped and Non-Newtonian index was decreased. The rheological properties of PET melt blended with the hyperbranched polyester were significantly improved.
