Heavy Oil Development by Steam Injection and Relevant Techniques
Thermal production by steam injection is one of the main and efficient methods for heavy oil development. It is systematic engineering which relate to thermal well drilling and completion, steam injection, wellbore lifting, and surface transportation etc.. GWDC has been providing long -term engineering service for the biggest Chinese heavy oil area,Liaohe oil field, which has multi -type heavy oil with conventional, extra -and super -viscosity in medi um and deep burial depth. Also, GWDC has abundant experience and integrated ability in heavy oil development plan optimization and design, thermal well completion, steam injection techniques, thermal production well lifting techniques, heavy oil reservoir developed by horizontal wells, and comprehensive sand control techniques as represent ative. Furthermore, GWDC is also providing high quality heavy oil thermal development service outside of China, such as Block 6 in Sudan, and Zaysan and Karazhanbas heavy oil field in Kazakhstan. This paper firstly introduces some typical thermal development cases in different kinds of heavy oil reservoirs, and subsequently it mentions and discusses the characteristic engineering techniques in thermal production based on the long -term practice. These include heavy oil development optimized design, steam injection techniques, wellbore lifting techniques,high temperature profile control and cleanup,high temperature measure techniques,comprehensive sand control techniques, thermal well completion techniques, sidetracked thermal well completion quality improving techniques, and heavy oil horizontal well application etc.. Every heavy oil reservoir exhibits special and different characteristics, and the development methodology and suitable techniques also are discrepant. Nevertheless, many engineering techniques and experience may be use as a reference. This paper systematically summarizes and introduces the experience of GWDC in heavy oil development by steam injection, and looks forward to share the experience with customs for the challenge of heavy oil development.
