Limestone Reservoir Slim Casing Short Radius Multilateral Well Drilling & Completion Technology

Multilateral technology is a new technology which can improve single well production and greatly reduce costs. In order to fully develop the reservoir, window cutting in small size casing and drilling short radius in the lat eral have been widely used. For the wells of AHWAZ oil field in south Iran whose limestone reservoir thickness ex ceeds 100m,the casing program would be: the main bore is set with 7casing,the upper and lower lateral sections are 61/8open holes, the build -up rate of the lateral is 1°/3m. The anchorage force of a common whipstock an chorage tool is inadequate, so it would affect window cutting, short -radius drilling completion drift and re -en try. With mechanical support established at the window,selective re -entry is needed in lateral sections after the cas ing is run to short radius laterals. This paper discusses the difficulties of small casing short radius drilling and com pletion technology in the limestone reservoirs of AHWAZ oil field, by demonstrating that: the expandable tubular anchor tool meets the requirements of anchorage force and drift diameter. Self -developed technologies for window connecting make sure that the casing is run to short radius laterals with selective re -entry. The selective re -entry guiding tool can make selective re — entry to the laterals fast.
