Application of Formation Pressure Detection Technique in the Prosopis Area of Chad
An accurate formation pore pressure, facture pressure and collapse pressure (three pressure profiles ) is necessary for determining casing program, designing moderate drilling parameters, selecting well control device, lowering bore hole problems and drilling accidents, protecting and discovering reservoir and enhancing drilling success. Spe cifically in an exploration area, the three -pressure profiles is very important to predict and prevent out of control situations like running into abnormal formation pressure causing a well blowout, burning rig and destroying the reservoir. The logging data, geological data, well testing data and drilled well data were used to analyze the forma tion s three pressure profiles in the Prosopis area of Chad using the Eaton sonic method, Eaton fracture pressure prediction method and Mohr -Coulomb criteria. The measured formation pore pressure was used to calibrate pre dicted formation pore pressure and it showed that the accuracy of the formation pore pressure predicted by the Eaton sonic method was more than 90%. The formation three pressure profiles was analyzed with mud weight in actual drilling and caliper logging data and it showed that prediction using three pressure profiles was fit for the actual condition. The statistical method was used to establish the three pressure profiles of the Prosopis area by the use of four wells pressure prediction results and helped determine the mud safety density window.
