Cementing Technologies for High Pressure Gas Wells in Complex Formations

The drilling and cementing of high pressure gas wells in Myanmar is a world-class difficulty, especially in block D, where the pay zones are mostly natural gas and there are complex downhole problems such as wellbore collapse, hole shrinkage, lost -circulation and well kicks that often occur in this area. Moreover, due to the narrow safe mud weight window, few conventional technical options are available and this leads to low displacement efficiency, lost -circulation and gas channeling problems. Several international drilling companies have explored in this block, but the cementing quality is quite poor. CNPC Bohai Drilling Engi neering Co. Ltd has been working on the improvement of cementing quality by applying such measures as try ing different plugging methods, applying positive and reverse squeezing, using low -viscosity low -yield point lead mud with sufficient preflush or spacer, multi -gelling non -permeable cement slurry, composite flow displacement and others. A liner hanger with top packer is used for completion. The technologies have been used in three wells and the cementing quality improved greatly, and the success provides valuable refer ences for the cementing practices in block D in Myanmar.
