Screen Completion Technology for Horizontal Wells with Reservoir Protection
Horizontal well completion technology is a key technology for horizontal wells, which determines the success or failure of horizontal well operations. Screen completion technology for horizontal wells is attaches more importance to horizontal well completion and has good application effects in developing single reservoirs. On one hand, it exposes the reservoir to increase the drainage area; on the other hand, it supports the borehole wall and protects the reservoir. But with more extension applications, there are also some disadvantages : selecting an inappropriate com pletion method leads to sanding or water bursting during the later period and affects the development of the poten tial reservoir; incomplete reservoir protection measures causes various contaminations to the oil layers; the insuffi cient strength of a screen pipe results in sand control failure. For these problems, we developed two sets of horizon tal well screen completion technology with reservoir protection function based on the conventional screen completion: for the horizontal well with the unstable upper formation, we run the upper casing into the top of layer, rapidly open the oil layer by the use of completion fluid matching with formation and then run the screen pipe string for completion; for the horizontal well with the stable upper formation, we run the upper casing to the upper cap rock, and drill it out to open the oil layer directly, and then run the screen pipe string in the hole. After completion, we clean and release the screen pipe and borehole wall with reservoir protection fluid to recover reservoir permeability and protect the oil layer more effectively. These two kinds of completion technology can solve the problems existing in horizontal well screen completion, and get sound effect in the field with high water -cut and high ROP. This controls the water effectively and has made a great contribution to oil production in old fields, allowing the prob lems during horizontal well screen pipe completion to be solved effectively. This paper gives detailed introduction about this technology from the following aspects: screen completion technology for horizontal well, reservoir protec tion technology, optimization of reservoir protection fluid, and its supported tools.
