Digital Core Technology Research and Application

Rock physics is a very important, basic work. With the increasing difficulty of oil and gas exploration, demands of the accuracy and the timeliness on the physical measurements of rock are rising. CNPC Logging began to study digital core technology in late 2007,and after two years of research, the technology has been basically formed. The Turpan -Hami, Qinghai, Changqing, and North China Oilfields have applied the technology and achieved good results. Diversity of lithology, pore space, and fluid characteristics are the main features of current complex reser voirs. The essence of this complexity is low resistance, low porosity, low permeability and complex lithology. The main content of Digital core technology is to establish a rapid measurement and analysis technique, establish the transformation between the rock physics adapting to the block, and finally establish a digital core database. CNPC Logging has establish four sets of digital core test systems in Qinghai, Turpan -Hami, North China and Changqing Oil Fields. Using this Digital core technology, we can reduce the experimental period from one and a half to three days meeting the well logging interpretation precision. Digital core technology is a breakthrough of conventional core experimental techniques,which gives a more timely, scientific and reasonable interpretation model and parameters. Along with this technologys unceasing consummation, it will certainly play an influential role in the oil field exploration and development.
