Study on Prediction the Cutting Force of the Face Milling
Face milling is a typical intermittent cutting process. With the tools rotation, as well as the cutter tooth cutting in and out of the workpiece, the magnitude of the cutting force also changes periodically; furthermore, it would influence the cutting heat, tool wear, chip shape and the integrity of machining surface directly. Therefore, making the exact prediction of the cutting force in face milling, is not only the premise of researching the cutting mechanism, but also the foundation to launch the study of the simulation and deformation in process of face milling. Therefore, this paper will first establish the milling force prediction model based on the average cutting force. Consider the cut-in and cut-out angles influence when solving the milling force coefficient. Then the models parameters can be calculated through experimental test; thereby predict the instantaneous milling force. Finally comparing with the experimental data to verify the model has been established. And results state clearly that this model is well in predicting the cutting force both in trends and precision.
