NETWORK MAPPING FOR REGIONAL COOPERATION ON APPLICATION FOR PATENTS IN THE HIGH-TECH AREAS

Taking the co-application patents in the high-tech areas as entry point and using Social Network and Block Model analysis, the paper aims to investigate the cooperation among Chinese regions and other countries who co-application for patents in China. It distinguishes three main areas including the Biotechnology, Fuel cells and ICT, finds out the typical universities, firms and regions that cooperating most in high-tech area. It implicate that the collaboration features of the three high-tech areas are greatly different compared with each other. And all of the international countries are not inclined to cooperate with China except for some neighboring countries such as Japan. Regions are tend to cooperate with the regions which are concentrated on universities and research institutions, have possession of high-tech enterprises, advanced infrastructure construction and developed economics. The research findings are useful for policy-making and strategic planning for high-tech industry development. And it also promotes regional economic exchanges and cooperation and the enterprises with competitive intelligence analysis reference.
