CREW ROSTERING PROBLEM: CASE OF THAI DOMESTIC LOW COST AIRLINE

The airline crew rostering problem consists of constructing monthly schedules for crew members by assigning them flight pairings, crew rest periods, annual and sick leave, training periods, and other activities so as to satisfy the agreements and health-safety rules. A general crew rostering problem will consider the crew compensations as the primary objective. This paper presents the crew rostering problem for Thai domestic low cost airline where the quality of life of crewmember is the main objective. We formulate this problem as the mixed-integer linear programming balancing each individuals workload while maintaining fairness in quality. A pre-processing phase is performed to distribute the weekend rest periods, the leave, and training periods to each crew. Computational results obtained with a commercial integer programming solver (CPLEX) are presented and analysed.
