CONTROLLED HEPARIN RELEASE FROM ELECTROSPUN GELATIN FIBERS
Heparin was incorporated into electrospun gelatin fibers to improve their hemocompatibility. The uniform nanofibers without beads could be manufactured by electrospinning technology from 18 wt.% gelatin-acetic acid solution with 0.18 wt.% and 0.90 wt.% heparin. The fiber diameters decreased significantly compared with the fibers without heparin. Approximate 33% of the encapsulated heparin was released by diffusion from the heparin/gelatin nanofibers in 14 days.
