POLY(L-GLUTAMIC ACID)-BASED STAR-BLOCK COPOLYMERS AS pH-RESPONSIVE RELEASE SYSTEMS
Synthesis of star-block copolymers based on poly(L-glutamic acid), their encapsulation, as well as pH-responsive release properties are described. The star-block copolymers are composed of a hyperbranched polyethyleneimine (PEI) core, a poly(L-glutamic acid) inner shell, and a poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) outer shell. A cationic model dye crystal violet and model anticancer drug adriamycin hydrochloride can be efficiently entrapped by the synthesized star-block copolymers at physiological pH as a result of electrostatic interactions. The loaded drugs in the star-block copolymer have a high temporal stability, but display remarkably accelerated release upon a gradual decrease in the solution pH.
