NONTOXIC GEMINI CATIONIC BIODEGRADABLE POLYURETHANE DRUG CARRIERS: SYNTHESIS, SELF-ASSEMBLY AND IN VITRO CYTOTOXICITY
A series of multiblock gemini poly(ε-caprolactone urethane)s were developed, and self-assembled into micellar structures with sizes below 100 nm, positive surface charges, extremely low critical micelle concentrations and enhanced drug loading capacity. Moreover, the paclitaxel incorporated polyurethane micelles showed significant cytotoxicity on Lewis lung carcinoma cells, while the blank micelles have good biocompatibility even as the concentration is up to 0.1 mg/mL. These gemini polyurethane micelles hold great promise as biodegradable carriers for drug and gene delivery.
