NOVEL pH-SENSITIVE ZWITTERIONIC POLY(AMINO ACID) DERIVATIVES FOR DRUG DELIVERY

New biodegradable and pH-sensitive zwitterionic poly(aspartic acid) derivatives were synthesized by conjugation of amines, such as N-(3-aminopropyl)morpholine(AMP), methyl L-histidine dihydrochloride(His-OME), dimethylpropylenediamine(DMAP), and ethylenediamine(EDA). Depending on the pKa of the grafted amine, the isoelectric point (IEP) of the polymer can be effectively adjusted. The solution behavior of these polymers has been studied by turbidity, size distribution and zeta potential measurements. Initial work shows that polymer with a molar ratio of 0.33 of DMAP has a high buffering capacity and pH sensitivity.
