IN VITRO AND IN VIVO EVALUATION OF IBUPROFEN-PAEONOL CONJUGATE

Ibuprofen is one of widely used non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. However, the potential of causing adverse effects limits its further clinical application. Therefore, a novel ibuprofen-paeonol conjugate (IPC) was synthesized by esterification to improve the therapeutic efficacy and decrease the gastrointestinal (GI) tract irritation of ibuprofen. The systemic evaluations of IPC were carried out including pharmaceutical characterization, pharmacodynamics and GI irritation of IPC. The results of the systemic evaluation indicated that IPC had an enhanced anti-inflammatory activity and showed fewer side effects as compared to ibuprofen.
