pH-INDUCED SELF-ASSEMBLY OF ALBUMIN AND CHITOSAN

Chitosan (CS) and bovine serum albumin (BSA) are typical biomacromolecules and polyelectrolytes. These two natural polyelectrolytes could conjugate by electrostatic interactions when they were mixed together in solutions, which could be controlled by pH. BSA/CS assemblies were prepared by self-assembly of chitosan and bovine serum albumin in aqueous solutions at pH 5.8, and characterized by TEM and DLS. The results showed that the size of the assemblies was 100 nm in diameter, and assemblies exhibited swelling behavior in aqueous solutions.
