VERSATILE SYNTHESIS OF FUNCTIONAL BIODEGRADABLE POLYMERS BY RING-OPENING POLYMERIZATION AND MICROWAVE-ASSISTED CLICK REACTION
Pendant azido functionalized cyclic carbonate monomer, 2,2-diazidomethyltrimethylene carbonate (DATC) was prepared and its copolymers with LA were synthesized by ring-opening polymerization (ROP). The azido groups were capable of click reactions with various alkyne-containing molecules such as propargyl alcohol, propynylamine, 4-pentynoic acid, alkyne-terminated mPEG and alkyne-terminated poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) under microwave-assisted conditions. These functionalized polyesters have potential applications in drug delivery.
