Experimental Investigation on Two Phases Small-scale Pulse Detonation Engine at the high frequency

This work presents an attempt to explore the feasibility of two-phase small-scale pulse detonation engine (SPDE) at the high frequency, which is considered to have good prospect in using as a small-scale propulsion system. A SPDE model with the aero-valve and detonation tube was designed that the diameter both and the overall length were 29mm and 998mm respectively. The model was performed with kerosene as fuel under the condition of filling air by airblower, and was ignited by a spark plug with low energy. The propagation of flame and pressure waves was measured by pressure transducers and ion probes, to analyze the detonation wave properties were obtained when SPDE operated in high frequency. Multi-cycle detonation test showed that all the maximal average peak valuable of detonation wave pressure is more than l.9MPa, as the operating frequency increased, the valuable of detonation wave pressure and velocity both showed a decreasing tendency. Besides the valuable of deflagration-to-detonation transition (DDT) time and ignition delay time both tend to decrease with increasing operating frequency.
