Knowledge Based Engineering Platform for Multidisciplinary Fuselage Design and Analysis

A Design and Engineering Engine (DEE) is constructed to give specific views of the various discipline experts on fuselage design. Muti-model Generator (MMG) for fuselage is programmed using Generative Declarative Language (GDL) including structural subcomponents of fuselage, for example, frames, stringers floors and fuselage panels. Weight and Costing model is based on parametric cost estimation model, which can be extended to account for effect of commonality to the cost. 3D Aerodynamic lift and drag are computed in VSAERO,a commercial software using panel method. Due to different meshing approach in aerodynamic and structural analysis in DARwing, radial basis function is adapted to map the aerodynamic load into structural nodes. Mechanics model, conducted with parameters extracted from geometric and aerodynamic model is preprocessed in PATRAN and evaluated in NASTRAN for preliminary structure analysis. All design process of fuselage can be automated with aid of this platform. This design methodology is illustrated by simple design case of fuselage section design.
