Longitudinal Aerodynamics at High Alpha on Several Planforms of Cranked Arrow Wing Configurations
Longitudinal aerodynamics at high alpha on several cranked arrow wings were investigated by low speed wind tunnel tests. The aerodynamic forces measurement, the flow visualization, and the PIV measurements were conducted for the cranked arrow wing models with different wing planforms. The effects of the inboard/outboard leading edge sweepback angles and the leading edge kink locations were surveyed With increasing the inboard wing sweepback angle, the linearity of the pitching moment was drastically improved. The sweepback angle of the outboard wing strongly affects to the slope of pitching moments. No obvious changes of the pitching moment characteristics were obtained for the three models which have different leading edge kink locations. The pitching moment characteristics of the cranked arrow wing at high alpha were strongly influenced by the vortex breakdown and the large scale flow separation (wake flow) which dominated by the wing planform.
