Prediction of Transition over Airfoils by Using Parabolized Stability Equation

In the present work, we combine PSE stability analysis and eN method to predict transition points over several airfoils: NACA0012, NLF (1)-0414, and NLF(1)-0416. Prior to PSE stability calculation, we first obtain mean flow properties by using our boundary layer analysis code developed following Iyers work. To verify our PSE stability analysis code, we first perform flat plat boundary layer stability analysis whose mean flow is determined by the Blasius solution. We then apply this PSE code to compute disturbance growth factor N for various airfoil boundary layers. Transition points predicted with these N-factor curves are compared with the other data available to illustrate that the use of PSE analysis is indeed highly recommended. It is found in the present work that transition point is well predicted with N= 11~12 over airfoil boundary layers
