An Analysis of Dutch Roll in High Angle of Attack
This paper presents an approximation for Dutch roll in high angle of attack. The traditional approximation of Dutch roll can not express the accurate Dutch roll in high angle of attack. Using the linearized lateral-directional equations of aircraft motion can get the expression of the Dutch roll. In addition, this new solution shows that there are three distinct components to the Dutch roll damping. The one is the conventional yaw damping term, but the present solution points out two other contributions to the Dutch roll damping. The yaw damping is the largest of components in traditional Dutch roll damping, but the roll damping is the largest of components in high angle of attack. The last, utilizing the linearized lateral-directional equations validate the approximation for Dutch roll.
