Research on the Configuration of Airborne Infrared Flare Dispenser
The study aims to evaluate the infrared (IR) flare effectiveness and summarize the configuration principles of airborne IR flare dispenser, with the simulation method, which consists of aircraft model, missile model, and flare system model. Based on this method, the successful decoy probabilities PJ under different engagement situations are calculated, and the effect of two important configuration parameters, installation position and direction, on the effectiveness is analyzed. According to the results and analysis, it is summarized that installation direction contributes greatly to flare effectiveness. If the missile velocity change due to flare dispensing direction is opposite to the change due to aircraft, the dispenser installation direction is more effective to seduce the missile. The influence of installation position is reflected only when the flares are dispensed at a short range. Moreover,, flare dispenser should be installed near the IR centroid of aircraft to appear immediately in seeker field of view (FOV) and function as long as possible.
