Design Methodology of Vehicle Management System for Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicle

Vehicle Management Systems (VMSs) are used widely for integrated control and managementin many modern advanced fighters. Basic design idea and methodology for VMS of unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV) are briefly summarized as follows. Firstly, the UCAV s requirements for VMS are set down and then translated into a series of architectural design problems. Secondly. these problems are discussed in detail, especially with regard to data communication, system redundancy and reliability design, as well as architectural complexity. VMS is used to manage and control flight safety-critical subsystems, so it could be designed by the application of faulttolerant and reconfiguration method, with the high reliability and capability. Finally, according to the above considerations, an open hierarchical architecture of the VMS for autonomous UCAV has been addressed in this paper. In general, the aggressive performance and supportability goals required for UCAV can be realized with its three layers architecture: mission command layer, decision planning layer, and executing layer.
